The Engage Women’s Group gathering on JCC Manhattan's roof this July was a resounding success. Over 20 women attended. The goal of this informal summer social was to provide an opportunity for members of the newly formed group to build community, connect, and get to know each other better. The Engage Women’s Group was formed to bring together women in the youngest boomer cohort. These women may still be working or just sending children off to college. Others are downsizing and first moving into the city, or they may be involved with family care issues. The one thing that they all have in common is that they are in a transitional phase of their lives and looking to connect with like-minded women.
The women were all engaged in lively conversations, bonding, and sharing a great deal about themselves. They talked about what brought them to the group as well as their expectations for the future. Their main interest was in networking with each other, creating a sense of belonging, and sharing their skills, experiences, and wisdom through opportunities to give back to the community.
A lot of enthusiasm was generated and many new friendships were formed. The group is looking forward to the next meeting, in September, when they will brainstorm topics of interest to the group as well as ways to be effective in supporting those in need.
