When you meet Judy Margolis for the first time, you are immediately drawn in by her wide smile and embracing warmth. You want to know her better. It comes as no surprise then to learn that Judy has spent most of her professional career working at social services agencies.
Judy recently retired from her position as Executive Director of Family Counseling Services (FCS) in Westhampton Beach, NY. She sought new avenues to find meaningful work that would provide structure in this next stage of her life. She wanted to connect with others in transition and find opportunities to use her knowledge, experience, and skills to give back to the community.
Initially, Judy served in UJA-Federation of New York's Management Assistance Program (MAP), a skill based volunteer program. She worked as part of a team to write a grant proposal to fund Engage at JCC Manhattan and two other sites. As a result of this endeavor, Judy paved the way for herself and many others to become actively involved in the Engage community. She believes that “Engage provides an avenue for people to feel connected and gives them a purpose.”
Under the leadership of Rabbi Brian Fink, Engage at JCC Manhattan offers many opportunities for people to connect and give back to the community through outreach programs and partnerships with local agencies. A unique feature of Engage is that most projects are driven by volunteers leading volunteers. Judy currently serves in multiple leadership roles as an Engage volunteer. She is a volunteer leader on the Engage management team, facilitates volunteer leader training, and is involved in the Wise Aging project.
